Driven Films Nominated For the 2022 International Motor Film Awards: Best Event Film
We are excited to announce that Driven Films has been nominated for Best Event Film at the International Motor Film Awards.
The nomination is for an event film of the Formula DRIFT 2022 season opener at the Long Beach Street Circuit that showcases our client Throdle, one of the event’s sponsors. We couldn’t be more proud of our video production and photography team for the work they put into making this event film happen, or more honored to share this opportunity with a client as engaged and supportive as Throdle has been.
So while we wait for the big night at the International Motor Film Awards in September, we’d like to share with you what went into making this award-nominated event film.
Behind the Nomination: The Project
The event film itself was done in collaboration with Throdle at the 2022 Formula DRIFT season opener at the Long Beach Grand Prix street circuit.
A quick aside: if you haven’t had the opportunity to get down to Long Beach to see this, it’s incredible. They use the same track that IndyCar uses for the Long Beach Grand Prix, and that prime beach-side location is unbeatable.
We had been excited to collaborate with our client Throdle on a huge number of content pieces throughout the Formula DRIFT 2022 season, including tons of motorsports videography and photography. None was more exciting, for them or for us, then pulling off this motorsports event film.
Part of that excitement is because of what Throdle stands for as a community of car and motorsports fans. We saw in that shared passion a responsibility to deliver a film that captured the event, that captured the cars, and that captured the spirit.
The other part? Working with the incredible Formula DRIFT drivers behind it all.
Behind the Nomination: the Drivers
Any good video production team knows the importance of their on-screen talent.
For those of us in the automotive industry, that on-screen talent is equal parts cars and in the case of motorsports, their drivers.
That’s why we want to shout out the drivers who made this production come to life.
Working and filming with Formula DRIFT drivers like defending champion Fredric Aasbø, Matt Field, Ryan Tuerck and fan favorite, Adam LZ was the best experience. Seeing their own creativity on the track pushed our team to keep up and capture the energy of the day on film.
Behind the Nomination: the Team
Our production team consisted of a squad of four: Joe Nicklo (Director of Photography), Justin Hall and Matthew Tucker (Camera Operators) and Michael Connor (Photographer)
We filmed the Formula DRIFT Long Beach aftermovie on a pair of RED Komodo cinema cameras with Tokina Cinema lenses and a Blackmagic Pocket 6K Pro.
The RED Komodo cinema cameras allowed us to capture gorgeous action shots but also kept the camera packages small and nimble.
Back in the Driven Films Studio, we got to work to produce the most epic aftermovie Formula DRIFT fans have ever seen.
As Driven Films is a full-service production facility, we did all of the video editing, sound design and color grading in-house.
So with that being said, are you ready to see the final product?
